You Art What You Eat!

This year for family reading night, one of my schools chose the topic of healthy readers.  I wanted to have a display for this special night. So we did some food related art projects.  One of the projects included my favorite canning jar lesson.  The 5th grade students did Kandinsky inspired fruit.  4th grade students made the food pyramid out of prints.  They also created a well balanced meal out of collage with paper and foam.  The 3rd grade students did the canning jar lesson.

Canning Jar Garden Prints

3rd Grade - Drawing, Painting, and Printing all in 30 minutes!
When I don't have my students in the summer months I like to take care of my garden.  I wanted to share this joy with the students so I brought in lots of canned vegetables from the garden.  The jars were set around the room so the kids could see the various vegetables.  I quickly explained where the vegetables came from and how they are safe in the jars.  Next, we drew the jars, painted the inside and printed with various tools.  One of the best printing tools was cut up cardboard.  The students and I loved this project!
