Saturday Animation

Saturday Art Classes were really great!  Since there are so many great things that we often do not have time to cover in a school day, I had the pleasure of teaching a few students on Saturdays.  We had three sessions and they all went really well.  Here is an example of what the two students in the Dinosaur animation class created.  They made this short movie in only two one hour sessions.  Thank you to all of the students who participated, we had a great time!

Integrating Academics with Installation Art

A third grade teacher and myself are involved in a project through the Intermediate Unit 1 and The Mattress Factory Art Museum. The regular education teacher and myself are to determine weaknesses in test scores and then create a lesson which integrates art with our weakness. We are looking at the life cycle of a sunflower. We will be combining science, art and math as we will be measuring growth. We are looking at the life cycle of a sunflower.

In art class we looked at Sunflowers in art.  The students also worked together to create this awesome animation.

This week we are working on "The Space I'm In". An installation space is going to be created. Our third grade students will be working with the sunflowers. I'm not 100% what I am going to do with the other students yet. We will see!

Mixed Media Football Players

Let's Go Steelers!  The fourth graders created these mixed media Troy Polamalu and Brett Keisel pieces.  They had such a great time working in a group to create these in about 25 minutes!  They make me laugh every time I look at one of them.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Happy chinese new year!
Year of the rabbit
Each grade level made a different project to celebrate Chinese New Year. This is a little display at one of my schools. Kindergarten worked on line inside of their rabbit. First grade did dragons. Second grade printed from a block that i created for my chinese new year cards. Third grade made fortune cookies. Fourth grade made origami rabbits (even though origami originted in Japan). Fifth grade is busy working on a collaborative project and wree not able to make a new year project.

Snowflakes! Clay

It is the time of year for snowflakes!   These beautiful pieces begin with a slab cut with a snowflake cookie cutter.  Coils were built up on top of the slab to make these awesome snowflakes.

They look really beautiful after being glazed, shame on me I didn't take any images!

Kindergarten Clay Mittens

I like to do a clay project with every student in both of my schools before the holiday break.  Kindergarten made these really cool clay mittens using cookie cutters and wooden tools for texture.
